Sediment Dynamics and Wave-current Interactions
Described here is a model for the long-time formation and evolution of erodible beds under the action of waves and currents. It is an extention of a model rst developed by Craik and Leibovich, which describes the dynamics of Langmuir circulation cells, later adapted by McWilliams and Restrepo to model the interaction of a gravity wave eld with global oceanic ows.
متن کاملStratified Flow over Topography: Wave Generation and Boundary Layer Separation
We have performed laboratory experiments to study wave generation over and in the lee of model topography. We have chosen to use periodic, finite-amplitude hills which are representative of the Earth’s major mountain ranges as well as the repetitious topographic features of the ocean floor. The topographic shapes are selected to encompass varying degrees of roughness, from smoothly-varying sinu...
متن کاملExperimental Analysis on the Water Entrainment of Turbidity Current over a Mobile Bed
Study of Turbidity Current, as one of the most important phenomena affecting the sedimentation in the reservoirs of dams, is essential. Since most of the research studies have been conducted under experimental conditions on rigid beds, the effect of erodible bed and the formation of the bed form on the turbidity current specifications is not yet clear. Therefore, in this Research, the study of ...
متن کاملA Model of Granular Flows over an Erodible Surface
We present a framework for modeling a dry geophysical mass of granular material – a debris or volcanic avalanche or landslide – flowing over an erodible surface. We also describe a computing environment that incorporates topographical data into a parallel, adaptive mesh computational algorithm that solves the model equations.
